Q - How long have you been baking?  

A - Since I was a little girl, I have had a love of baking that was inspired by being in the kitchen with my mother baking cakes, cookies, and breads.

Q - What made you want to start baking cakes?

A - Sweet Beginnings by Elaine is a result of a life-long love of baking, sugar arts, crafts, and beautiful flowers. Also, my desire to make special and unique celebrations cakes and cookies for my children & grandchildren’s birthdays and sporting events.

Q - Where did you learn what you do?

A - The mechanics of baking from my mother. I also started taking decorating classes at a local craft store and fell in love with sugar art and have never looked back.  I am always on the look out for the latest trends and new techniques for weddings and celebration cakes. 

I have also taken workshops from the industries best : Colette Peters, (Colette Cakes, New York, NY, Nicholas Lodge, (The International School for Sugar Art Atlanta, Ga,_ Michele Bommarito (Wedding Cake Challenge, Food Network, Michigan),  Jay Qualls,(Maples Wedding Cake, Nashville TN & The Next Great Baker, TBS) & Wayne Steinkopf (Swank Cakes, Raleigh, NC) just to name a few.  Attended many workshops at ICES (International Cake Exploration Society) yearly conventions that have demonstrations from sugar artist from all over the US &many foreign countries…. I have been a member since 2010.

Q - Are they family recipes?

A - A lot of recipes I use are recipes from my mother, the carrot, chocolate, lemon & the butter cream frosting...

Q - Where did you grow up? 

A - The beautiful  mountains of Western North Carolina:  Boone, NC

Q - How long have you lived in Knoxville?  

A - 20 years

Q - What is your favorite flavor of cake?

A - I love my white cake with strawberry filling and vanilla butter cream frosting…mmm

Q - Where do you meet your clients?  

A - In my home in the Hardin Valley area of West Knoxville
